Roy Lichtenstein was a prominent American pop artist whose work was heavily influenced by both popular advertising and comic book styles and themes.
Lichtenstein is well known for his abstract expressionistic pop art, including introducing comic-strip-style sketches into pop art. His technique of using cropped renditions of advertising in fine art was inspired by consumer packaging. He is also known for creating abstract expressions of images taken from popular culture.
One of Lichtenstein’s most well-known works is the famous “Whaam!” As both an illustrator and a painter, Lichtenstein introduced techniques ranging from geometric elements to art deco designs, and incorporated abstract expressionism into his style.
